Heather Kessler has suffered a lot of loss during her life. Pregnant at a young age, she was soon left by the baby's father, Jerome. She raised her daughter, Zoe, on her own the best she knew how. Though the two often fought, Heather was immensely proud when her beautiful Zoe got into Harvard. When Zoe was seduced by her psychiatrist and became pregnant, she thought her mother would understand. Heather was never one to shy away from sexual situations--in fact, she'd built her entire life and fortune on the world of BDSM. Instead of understanding, Heather turned the psychiatrist in to the AMA for his blatant violation of ethics. This caused Zoe and Heather to become estranged to the point where Heather didn't even know that Zoe had left Boston and moved back to Las Vegas.
Heather never saw her daughter alive again. Zoe was murdered by a serial killer and Heather attempted to extract her own revenge before being stopped by Gil Grissom. She attempted to gain custody of her granddaughter, Allison, even selling her business to prove that she could be an upstanding citizen. Instead, the court denied her any custody or visitation rights, sending Heather into a spiral of grief, despair, and suicidal hopelessness.
After an attempt at murder-for-hire on herself, Grissom once again befriended her and somehow convinced her ex, Jerome, to allow her to see their granddaughter.
Heather is currently without a career (though she has plenty of money on which to live), and is for the moment simply devoting herself to spiritual and emotional healing, grieving for her daughter, and enjoying the life of her beautiful, precious granddaughter.
